Kenyans Pius Korir, 25, and Josephat Ongeri, 29, battled to the wire in the men’s half marathon. Defending-champ Korir won $1,000 for finishing in 1:05:22.7, Ongeri $750 for crossing 0.6 seconds back. Montreal-based Algerian Baghdad Rachem (1:06:42.9) took home $500 for third.
The women’s half marathon saw Ethiopian Alemtsehay Misganaw, 27, run off the shoulder of Russian-born Canadian Lioudmilla Kortchagiuna, 37, until the final 400 meters, then kick past her to win, 1:14:54 to 1:15:08. Third went to masters queen Paula Wiltse, 41, of Brockville, Ont. (1:18:22).
