Volcano Village Rain Forest Runs
This new event is at 4,000 feet elevation and will be traversing through the majestic native rain forest amidst the quaint Volcano Village and ranches, within stunning views of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea volcanoes. Pure inspiration for the soul. The 5K and 10K participants will be running through the lush native rain forest with the Half Marathon continuing on into the upper ranch lands surrounding the village. All distances will be open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, participating for health, enjoyment and to raise funds for the Volcano Art Center and other charities.

The Start/Finish will be at Cooper Center on Wright Road in the village of Volcano.

Course Description
The 5K and 10K participants will be running on a mostly flat course through the lush native rain forest on the quiet tranquil streets of the village, with the Half Marathon continuing on into the more hilly upper ranch lands surrounding the village with views of the stunning Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa Volcanoes in the distance. (elevation change 650 feet) Please note: This event is run on Kilauea one of world's most active volcanoes.
Awards
The Volcano Art Center will be presenting local artists pieces to the top 3 Winners M/F of the 1/2 Marathon and top 2 M/F in each 10 year division. For the 10K and the 5K - The top M/F winners will be presented with local artists awards and top 2 M/F in each 10 year age division. These awards are stunning pieces created by artists on the Big Island of Hawaii. Each one is a unique award. Kilauea Military Camp will be presenting awards to the top M/F winners of the Military Division for each race.
Packet Pickup / Expo
Friday August 20th late registration and packet pick up will be at the Kilauea Military Camp inside of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park from 2:00 - 6:00 pm in the Ohia Room. There is no Half Marathon sign up on race day, however, you can pick up your race numbers beginning at 5:30 am. 10K & 5K can register until race starts. Finisher T-shirts are not guaranteed on race day.
KMC is offering a Cardo Load Buffet Dinner from 5:00 - 7:30 pm Adults $19.75, Children 6-11 $9.95, Children under 5 are free. National Park fees apply. Cost: $10 for a seven day pass per vehicle.
Timing / Results
JTL Timing will be the official timing company. This is not a chip run event. Individual result cards will be available when the runner cosses the finish line.
Event results will be available on line at: www.volcanoartcenter.org, www.jtltiming.com on August 22 and in the Hawaii Tribune Herald on August 23.
Post Race Activities
The Volcano Rotary Club will be providing the Rain Forest Grill, a lunch for $10 on race day ($9 if pre-ordered) starting at 10:30 am for the runners, friends and families.
Weather
Weather should be around 60 degrees in the morning when the race begins and will probably reach 70 degrees by noon. There is always a chance of rain in the rain forest . . . .and rainbows.
Directions
Volcano Village is 30 miles from the town of Hilo and 96 miles from Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii. Both towns have airports and lodging. The Village is also 2 miles from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A seven day pass for the National Park costs $10.
Parking
Parking is limited at Cooper Center, however there are many parking areas around the village within easy walking distance of the start/finish area.
