The 51-year-old Olympic gold medalist finished the 3.1-mile race in 17 minutes, 41.9 seconds -- six seconds behind winner Maria Varela. Jarrod Shoemaker won the men's race.

Elva Dryer, one of America’s most successful U.S. track runners over the past decade, may be running out of options – literally.

Dryer, who competed at 5,000 meters in the 2000 Olympics and then at 10,000 in the 2004 Olympics, where she finished 19th, was one of the favorites at the 2008 Olympic trials marathon in Boston last April.
